Customer Case Studies

Hand-held Service Integration

Problem/Opportunity: Using off-the-shelf Motorola/symbol hand held devices enable remote users to call services historically only available through batch-oriented mainframe systems.
Solution: we designed and implemented an end-to-end system connecting field service representatives to a web-service-enabled processing system. The extension of the back-end system required minimal coding. The front-end device application used the client’s existing SQL Server Merge Replication and Web Services infrastructure to transfer data through the secure firewall over HTTP.
Technology: Windows Mobile, .Net Compact Framework, SQL Server (CE, 2008, Merge Replication), WCF Web Services, WebSphere Application Server, Resco Mobile Forms Toolkit

Ordering & Distribution Integration

Problem/Opportunity: Order Management systems, running on a mainframe, must communicate with new sorting and packing systems in remote distribution centers. The distribution systems are written for Windows in .Net. The Order Management system is partially exposed through WebSphere running on AIX. The entire system must be administered through a web interface running on WebSphere.
Solution: We joined the project after the initial design phase. Implementation was already underway, with some severe performance problems. We reviewed the existing requirements, architecture, design and code. This review led to some architectural changes as well as some code-level changes required. When we joined the project, there were an estimated 12 months remaining before go-live. We were able to lead the team to a 6-month production release.
Technology: WebSphere Application Server, WS-Reliable Messaging, DB2, WCF Web Services, Hibernate, Spring, JMS, Struts, SQL Server

Legacy Document Imaging – Solaris to Linux Migration

We assumed maintenance and support of a legacy custom document imaging application running on 4 Solaris HP servers. We ported the entire system from 5 Solaris HP boxes running EMC storage to two Linux virtual machines running on cloud storage. This saved the client $104,795 in hard costs over three years.  We also resolved extensive performance and stability issues that existed before the porting to Linux amd extended their reporting and archiving functionality.  Total amount of data converted to two Linux VM’s was excess of 3 TB’s. with a 1.9 TB image repository via an NFS gateway.
Technology: Zend, VMware, Solaris, Linux, MySQL, PHP

Database Consolidation and Migration – Oracle & Sybase to MySQL

Consolidated 800 GB Oracle and 250GB Sybase Adaptive Server databases hosted on Solaris to MySQL on Virtual Linux server running red hat enterprise 4x. We converted 18 separate custom PHP applications running on Solaris, to support new database access running on Red Hat Linux. Created custom application to scan and locate code 39 bar codes on 8/1/2X11 and 14 inch cover sheets.
Technology: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, Solaris, Linux, VMware, PHP
